The Beat (Or known as the The English Beat in Canada and the USA) were an English band from Birmingham, England. They created a unique fusion of latin, ska, funk, pop, reggae, and punk, which brought them to stardom in the late 80s. The band was a big part of the New Wave movement, and after their breakup in 1983, their members went on to make more successful bands Fine Young Cannibals, and General Public.
